UK Vanlife Service Infrastructure
One of the most practical challenges of full-time vanlife in the UK is staying on top of essential services: fresh water, waste disposal, showers, laundry, LPG refills, and vehicle maintenance. Unlike mainland Europe, the UK has no national network of Aires or Stellplatz motorhome service points. Provision is patchy, often commercial, and rarely well-signposted.
Fresh water is available at many campsites, some motorhome service points, and a growing number of council-run facilities. A 40-litre tank lasts 3-5 days with careful use. In remote areas of Scotland or Wales, natural water sources exist but require filtration.
Waste disposal for grey water is a legal requirement to manage responsibly. Dedicated disposal points are found at motorhome service areas, many motorway services, and holiday parks that accept day visitors. Chemical toilet disposal is available at most campsites for a small fee.
LPG (autogas) is available from BP, Flogas, and Calor dealers around the UK, though coverage thins considerably in rural Scotland. Showers and laundry are typically found at leisure centres, campsite day-visitor facilities, some truck stops, and independent laundrettes.
